PHILADELPHIA - Junior Amber Youtz and senior Molly Doyle have been named to the 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region First and Second Teams, respectively. Sixteen student-athletes were named to each team for the Mid-Atlantic Region. The honor is the second for Youtz, who was named to the all-region second team as a sophomore.
With three games left to play in Division I field hockey, the national semifinals and the national championship, Youtz ranks second among all players in the country in points per game at 2.44. She averaged one goal per game this season, which ranks fifth in the nation. Youtz led all players in the BIG EAST in both categories.
Youtz, a BIG EAST First Team honoree, was also a Preaseason All-BIG EAST selection, a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection, and was twice named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week this season. She scored 16 goals to go with seven assists, and recorded her fourth career hat trick in a 3-1 win vs. Providence on Oct. 11. It was the first game back for Youtz after sitting out for three full games due to injury. Youtz concluded her junior season with 103 career points to tie for fifth all-time in program history, and her 42 career goals rank seventh all-time.
Doyle, recently named to the BIG EAST Second Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, ranked second on the team with eight goals and 19 total points. She notched her first career hat trick in a 3-1 win over Bucknell on Oct. 6, and scored twice in a 3-0 upset of #6 Penn State on Sept. 6, after which she was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Doyle helped anchor a Temple defense that recorded five shutouts this season, and held opponents to just 29 goals while the Owls scored 49.
On Nov. 23, Doyle will represent Temple in the annual NFHCA Senior Game. She was one of 38 Division I seniors to be named to the team. Fellow senior and team co-captain Mandi Shearer has been named an alternate for the Senior Game.
