Men's Basketball Travels to UMass for Saturday Showdown

AMHERST, MA - The Temple men's basketball team will look to put its stunning 84-83 upset loss at the hands of Duquesne in the rearview mirror when it takes the floor at the Mullins Center Saturday for its nationally-televised (CBS Sports Network) game against Massachusetts. Tip-time is 6:00 pm with the game also being broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.
Senior guard Khalif Wyatt, who set new career highs for points (35) and steals (6) in the loss to the Dukes, paces the Owls (16-8, 5-5 A10) and the Atlantic 10 Conference in scoring with 19.6 points per game. Wyatt, who has been red-hot over the past 10 games (25.4 ppg.), also leads head coach Fran Dunphy's squad in assists with a 4.0 average.
Sophomore forward Anthony Lee (11.0 ppg., 7.6 rpg.) and senior swingman Scootie Randall (10.9 ppg., 6.2 rpg.) also average in double figures for the Owls while ranking one-two in rebounding, respectively. Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (8.4 ppg.) and sophomore guard Will Cummings (5.8 ppg.) round out the starters with graduate students Jake O'Brien (8.4 ppg.) and T.J. DiLeo (2.6 ppg.) along with junior Dalton Pepper (3.0 ppg.) providing depth on the bench.
UMass, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Derek Kellogg, is coming off a tough 86-68 road loss at VCU. The Minutemen are tied for sixth place in the tight A10 standing with a 6-4 record(16-8 overall) and are 9-2 at home.
Junior guard Chaz Williams tops UMass in scoring (15.7 ppg.), while leading the A-10 in assists (7.1, seventh in NCAA). Senior forward Terrell Vinson (12.0 ppg.) is the only other healthy player averaging double figures for UMass as junior guard Jesse Morgan (13.4 ppg.)?has missed the last eight contests due to an ACL?injury.
Temple leads the series, 43-21. The teams split two games last year with Temple taking the regular season meeting and UMass the A10 tournament game.
