PHILADELPHIA—
Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson had a career night, recording personal highs of 23 points and 18 rebounds, to lead Temple to a much-needed 82-74 win over visiting La Salle in front of a soldout Liacouras Center Thursday night. The win allowed the Owls (18-8, 7-5 A10) to share the Philadelphia Big 5 title with the Explorers (18-7, 8-4 A10) and pick up a key Atlantic 10 Conference win.

It was also Temple's eighth straight win over La Salle, and 16th in the last 19 meetings.  Owls' coach Fran Dunphy improved his record against his alma mater to 25-6, and also passed Don Casey (151, 1973-82) and moved into fourth place on the TU coaching win list.  His record in his six-plus seasons at Temple is 152-73.

The win was more than just a one-man show as for the second straight game five Owls reached double-figures in points.

Senior guard Khalif Wyatt, who had been the game's high scorer the last five outings, contributed 17 points and four assists.  Senior forward Scootie Randall posted his fourth double-double of the season, tallying 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  Sophomore forward Anthony Lee and graduate student Jake O'Brien each chipped in with 10 points.

Hollis-Jefferson was the driving force all night, shooting nine-of-14 from the field while hitting his mid-range jumper as well as aggressive follow shots.  The 6-6 junior grabbed a career-high-tying seven offensive rebounds with three going for put-back baskets.  His five assists also were a game-high for the Chester product.

After playing a record five straight one-point games, the Owls used the energy of the crowd to break the contest open midway through the first half.  Temple utilized an 18-1 run over the last 7:30 of the first half to make a three-point deficit a 14-point halftime lead (39-25).  It was a total team effort with five players scoring in the run, but surprisingly not Wyatt.

Temple never eased up in the second half, scoring 14 of the first 20 points of the period to open a 53-31 advantage by the first media timeout.  The Explorers were never able to recover, and never got closer than the final score the remainder of the contest.

Ramon Galloway led La Salle with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but shot 4-of-15 from the field.  Tyreek Duren, who picked up two early fouls that limited his effectiveness in the first half, added 16 points while Tyrone Garland added 14 points off the bench.

The Owls now head to Charlotte for Sunday's matchup with the 49ers at Halton Arena. Tip-off time is set for 4:00 PM. The game can be heard live on 1210 AM WPHT.
