CHARLOTTE – The Temple men's basketball team will look for a series sweep of Charlotte when the Owls (18-8, 7-5 A10) take on the host 49ers (18-7, 6-5 A10) in a key Atlantic 10 Conference battle Sunday at Halton Arena. Tip time is 4:00 p.m. The game can be heard on 1210 AM WPHT and is available by videostream.
The Owls, under the direction of head coach Fran Dunphy, will also be looking for their first three-game win streak since opening the season at 6-0. Temple is coming off wins at UMass (83-82, 2/16) and home against La Salle (82-74, 2/21) to move into sixth place in the A10 standings.
Senior guard Khalif Wyatt, who has averaged 24.5 points over the last dozen games, continues to lead the A10 in scoring (19.7 ppg.) and the Owls in assists (4.0 apg.). Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.0 ppg.,5.8 rpg.) is coming off his best outing as an Owl, setting career highs in points (23) and rebounds (18) in the La Salle win.
Senior forward Scootie Randall (11.0 ppg.) also had a strong outing against La Salle, scoring 15 points, while sophomore forward Anthony Lee (11.1 ppg.) tops the team and ranks sixth in the conference in rebounding (7.3 rpg.).
Charlotte, under the direction of head coach Alan Major, has the 49ers heading in the right direction as evidenced by his team's 71-67 victory at #10/11 Butler on Feb.13. That marked the program's first road win over a Top 10 team since 2003.
Senior forward Chris Braswell, who scored 23 points against the Owls earlier this season, is the only Charlotte player averaging double figures (11.4 ppg.). One of the most balanced offenses in the nation, all five starters average between 5.7 and 9.6 points per game.
Charlotte is 11-2 at Halton Arena this season with the losses coming at the hands of Florida State (79-76,12/22) and VCU (68-61).
Temple leads the series, 7-5, but is just 1-4 at Halton Arena. That victory came last season, a 79-57 win on Jan. 25.
