PHILADELPHIA –
The Temple men's basketball team (19-8, 8-5 A10) will put its three-game win streak to the test Thursday (7:00 pm/ESPN3/1210 AM WPHT) when the Owls plays host to a tough Detroit team (19-10, 11-4 Horizon) in the final game of the Chevrolet Gotham Classic.  The game, originally scheduled for December 28, was postponed due to weather-related issues.

It is also Student Athlete Recognition Night with Temple honoring its 14 athletic teams that compiled cumulative grade point averages over 3.00 for the fall semester.

Temple, under the direction of head coach Fran Dunphy, enters play with an 11-3 record in non-conference play and the same record in the friendly confines of the Liacouras Center.  The Owls have also won five of their last six games, and own a 25-5 February record since the 2009-10 season.

Senior guard Khalif Wyatt continues to lead the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 19.4 scoring average and the Owls in assists, dishing 4.0 per game.  Senior swingman Scootie Randall (11.3 ppg., 6.1 rpg.) and sophomore forward Anthony Lee (10.8 ppg., 7.3 rpg.) also average double figures while senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.0 ppg.,5.8 rpg.), the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week, tops the squad in steals (48) and ranks second in assists (86).

Sophomore guard Will Cummings (5.6 ppg.) rounds out the starting unit with graduate students Jake O'Brien (8.6 ppg.) and T.J. DiLeo (2.8 ppg.) along with junior Dalton Pepper (3.0 ppg.) providing a lift off the bench.

Detroit, under the direction of head coach Ray McCallum, will be playing its third game in five days when it takes the court against the Owls.  The Titans lost at Wright State, 94-79, in a Bracket Buster game Saturday, but rebounded to defeat Loyola (IL), 76-75, Tuesday.

Junior guard Ray McCallum, the coach's son, leads a balanced Detroit attack with a 19.0 scoring average.  Senior forward Nick Minnerath (15.2 ppg.), junior guard Jason Calliste (14.1 ppg.) and senior forward Doug Anderson (11.6 ppg.) also score in double figures while sophomore forward Juwan Howard, Jr. (9.0 ppg.) is close behind.

Junior forward Eric Bruinsma (5.3 ppg.) is the most effective weapon off the bench as Detroit gets 86 percent of its offense from its starting five.

Detroit has won the only meeting in the series, defeating Temple, 87-76, on Dec. 28, 1968 in the championship game of the Motor City Tournament.
