PHILADELPHIA - It is Hooter The Owl's Birthday Saturday and what better way to celebrate than to cheer on his Temple men's basketball team as it plays host to Rhode Island.  The game, presented by the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, will tip off at 2:00 p.m. (OwlAccess/1210 AM WPHT).

The family, fun event will feature games on the concourse, an opportunity to meet other local sports team mascots while the first 1,500 fans ages 14 and younger will receive a Temple Owls cap – presented by the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union.  There will also be a picture-taking and autograph session with the Temple Basketball players after the game!

On the basketball side, Temple, under the direction of head coach Fran Dunphy, will be looking to post its fifth straight win. The Owls posted their 20th win of the season, tying a program record for consecutive 20-win campaigns (6), with an 83-78 triumph over visiting Detroit Thursday.

Senior guard Khalif Wyatt continues to pace the A10 with a 19.4 scoring average and also tops the team in assists (4.2apg.). Senior swingman Scootie Randall (11.5 ppg., 6.1 rpg.) has scored in double figures a season-high five straight games, averaging 15.4 points during that stretch.  Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.1 ppg.), reigning Big 5 Player of the Week, has been hot as well, recording  three double-doubles over the last four games (13.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg.).  Sophomore forward Anthony Lee (10.6 ppg., 7.2 rpg.) leads the squad in rebounding while also averaging double figures in points.

Temple has looked much better offensively of late?and has scored 80 or more points in four of the last five games.
Rhode Island (8-18, 3-10 A10), under the direction of first year coach Dan Hurley, comes into the game  losers of two straight and eight of the last 10.  The Rams are a dangerous team, however, as evidenced by their 82-80 win at Atlantic 10 leader Saint Louis on January 19.

Junior guard Xavier Munford leads the Rams and ranks second in the conference in scoring at 17.3 points per game.  Senior forward Nikola Malesevic (10.6 ppg.) also tops double figures for URI, while senior guard Andre Malone (9.7 ppg.) and sophomore guard Mike Powell (9.4 ppg.) are close behind.

Temple leads the all-time series, 56-15, and has won the last six meetings.
