Softball Splits On Second Day of USF Under Armour Showcase

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Temple softball team split a pair of games on Saturday, March 9, at the USF Under Armour Showcase, losing to SIU-Edwardsville 10-0, before bouncing back to defeat Tennessee Tech, 7-5. The Owls move to 5-8.
Against the Cougars, TU struggled to get any offense going, collecting only two hits in the ball game. Both of the hits belonged to junior Stephanie Pasquale who went 2-for-2 with a double.
Meanwhile, SIUE pounded out nine hits and scored three runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third. Haley Chambers silenced the Temple bats, going 5.0 innings, striking out three and allowing just the two hits.
Sophomore Jessica Mahoney (0-5) took the loss, lasting only 2.0 innings, giving up eight hits, nine runs, all earned, walking two and striking out one.
Both teams scored early in the second game, with TU taking a 3-2 lead at the end of the first inning against Tennessee Tech. After three more scoreless, the Owls went ahead 6-3 with a three-run fifth. The Golden Eagles came right back with three of their own in the top of the sixth to cut it to 6-5, but the Cherry & White added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and held on in the seventh to come away with the 7-5 win.
The Owls got plenty of offense in the game, collecting 13 hits. Junior Sarah Prezioso went 3-for-4 with a double, a homerun and two RBI, while senior Ali Robinson was 2-for-3 in the game with one run batted in.
Freshman Kelsey Dominik (2-0) earned the win in a complete-game effort, allowing nine hits, five runs and striking out four. The rookie also helped herself with a solo homerun in the game.
Temple is 5-8 and will wrap up play at the tournament with a game against UT-Chattanooga at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.
