Baseball Losses Second Straight in Extra Innings to Saint Joseph’s

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple Baseball fell for the second straight game to Saint Joseph's with an extra inning defeat at Skip Wilson Field. The Owls allowed four runs in the top of the 10th inning to loss their second straight conference game, 10-6.
The Owls jumped out to an early lead as they scored three runs in the second inning behind a two-run homerun off the bat of junior David Hall. It was the junior's first homerun of the season in his 14th game.
David Hall led the Owls on the offensive side of the ball as he added a RBI single in the six inning. The outfielder went 2-for-3 scoring one run and recording three RBIs. Hall now has 13 RBIs and five runs on the year.
Sophomore Nick Lustrino extended his consecutive games reaching base safely to 18 games with a RBI single in the second inning.
Starting for Temple was right hander Eric Peterson who held the Hawks scoreless in the first five innings. He ran into trouble late in the game as he allowed a season high four runs during the sixth inning and seventh inning. Peterson recorded a season high eight strikeouts and pitched 6.2 innings in the outing which was his second longest of the season. The sophomore remains 2-0 with the no decision.
Reliever Ryan Kuehn pitched the final 2.2 innings allowing four runs to record his first loss of the season. It was the first game allowing an earned run for the junior in his seventh appearance of the season.
Saint Joseph's started the 10th inning with four consecutive hits to take the lead 10-6. The inning was capped with a two-run homerun to right field from freshman John Brue.
The Owls led heading into the eighth inning but were unsuccessful in holding the lead as freshman Connor Staskey relieved Peterson. Staskey allowed two runs in 0.2 innings of work allowing the Hawks to tie the game at six.
The Hawks scored two runs in the eighth inning on a wild pitch from Staskey and a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Anthony Cirillo.
First baseman Derek Peterson went 2-for-4 from the plate increasing his batting average overall with an RBI double to center field in the 7th inning. Peterson regains the team lead in RBIs with 16 on the year.
Left fielder Allen Stiles led the Owls in runs scored today scoring two runs as he batted 2-for-5 with a RBI triple in the sixth inning. It was the senior's second triple and sixth run scored this season.
The Owls are now 7-11 on the year, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10 as they look to rebound tomorrow against St. Joseph's. TU will be looking to secure their first conference win of the season as they return home for a 12:00 p.m. start at Skip Wilson Field.
