AMBLER, Pa. – Temple Baseball bounced back today with their first conference win of 2013 as they beat Saint Joseph's 11-1. The Owls only allowed one run in the first inning and shut down the Hawks for the rest of the game.
It was a team effort on the offensive side of the plate as Temple scored in seven of the eight innings at the plate. Led by senior Henry Knabe's three RBIs out of the three-hole, the Owls won their eighth game on the year. The Owls took the lead after the first inning and would never look back.
Starting for the Owls, senior Dan Moller picked up his first win of the season as he pitched 5.0 innings only allowed one earned run. He struck out two batters improving his record to 1-2.
TU scored two runs in the first inning to take their first lead of the day on two RBI singles from senior Matt Elko and junior David Hall. Temple would score in the next five innings to take a commanding lead, 10-1.
David Hall led the Owls in triples on the day with two that helped him to score three runs. He was 3-for-4 from the plate with one RBI.
Temple scored four runs in the fifth inning which was their largest output in an inning of the game. Junior Derek Peterson capped the inning with a singled to left field that knocked in two runs to give the Owls a commanding lead. Peterson leads the team in RBIs
with 18 on the season now.
Sophomore Nick Lustrino reached base safely via two walks today, increasing his consecutive on base streak to 19 games. The sophomore scored two runs for the Owls, second on the team behind lead-off hitter Jordan Queja who went 2-3 from the plate scoring three important runs for Temple.
The bullpen was tremendous in today's effort as four pitchers combined to throw four scoreless innings. Senior Steve Visnic appeared in his eighth game to strike out the side in the 9th inning to cap the win for the Owls.
After getting back into the win column, the Owls (8-11, 1-2) have one day to rest before returning home to play against Lehigh University at Skip Wilson Field on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
