Temple Hosts Lehigh Wednesday For Liberty Bell Classic Quarterfinal

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple, now 8-11 overall and 1-2 in conference play, returns home to play Wednesday's Liberty Bell Classic quarterfinal against Lehigh University at Skip Wilson Field. The Owls are coming off a series loss to Saint Joseph's over the weekend. TU won the last game of the series and is looking to win their second consecutive game.
Temple beat Lehigh last week in Bethlehem, Pa., 11-8 behind a four run inning in the ninth inning to come back and their fourth consecutive game at the time.
Junior Henry Knabe leads the team with a .409 batting average (27-for-66) and 27 hits. Sophomore Nick Lustrino has reached base safely in all 19 games this season. The sophomore is currently hitting .362 overall recording six multi-hit games this season.
First baseman Derek Peterson leads the Owls in runs scored, RBIs, and homeruns totaling 17 runs, 18 runs batted in, and two homers. Peterson has started all 19 games for TU at first base.
Lehigh has started the year off strong owning an 11-9 record overall. Lehigh is coming into the game against the Owls losing two out of their last three games against LIU Brooklyn. The Mountain Hawks previously won six straight games earlier in the season but have lost four out of their last six games overall.
The Mountain Hawks have two pitchers who have recorded three wins on the season. Juniors Nick Cassell (2-1) and Colin Gotzon (3-2) both have pitched over 20 innings and posted ERA's under 2.75. Gotzon leads the team with 28 strikeouts.
On the offensive side of the ball, Lehigh has two batters hitting over .300. Justin Pacchioli leads the team with a .344 batting average followed by Casey Turner (.304). Turner has started all 20 games posting a team leading 24 hits and 13 RBIs. Pacchioli leads the Mountain Hawks in triples with two on the season.
Temple will play either Saint Joseph's or Delaware next Tuesday in the Liberty Classic semifinals or a consolation game. The Liberty Bell Classic Championship takes place at Citizens Bank Park on April 16.
