DAYTON, Ohio – Temple's NCAA Tournament Third Round matchup against East Region top-seed Indiana will be played Sunday at approximately 2:45 p.m. at UD Arena. The game will air on CBS 30 minutes after the Iowa State and Ohio State game. Jim Nantz, Clark Kellog and Tracy Wolfson will have the call. It will also be broadcasted by Harry Donahue and John Baum on 1210 AM WPHT.
The #9-seeded Temple Owls (24-9) are playing in the Round of 32 for the second time in the last three seasons and are looking to reach the Sweet 16 for the eighth time in school history and for the first time since 2001.
Senior Khalif Wyatt, who was named the A-10 Player of the Year, scored a game-high 31 points against the Wolfpack to run his season total to 666. The Norristown, Pa. native, who now has 1,545 points in his career to rank 13th all-time at Temple, broke the program's 57-year record for most made free throws in a single season, formerly held by Hal Lear. After going 12-of-14 at the charity stripe, Wyatt has 200 made free throws this season.
Wyatt leads the A-10 in scoring with a 20.2 average while ranking seventh in the conference in assists (4.1 apg.). Wyatt also ranks ninth in the A-10 in steals (1.6 spg) and seventh in free-throw percentage (.832).
Wyatt is one of five players in their final season of eligibility on a veteran Owl team. Seniors Scootie Randall (11.6 ppg., 6.2 rpg.) and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.0 ppg., 6.1 rpg., 3.4 apg., 1.8 spg.) are staples in the Cherry and White starting five while graduate students Jake O'Brien (9.6 ppg., .439 three-point percentage) and T.J. DiLeo (3.0 ppg., 1.8 rpg.) are the top reserves.
Sophomores Anthony Lee (9.8 ppg., 6.8 rpg.) and Will Cummings (6.0 ppg., 1.4 spg.) fill out the starting rotation.
The East Region top seed Indiana Hoosiers (28-6) are coming their 83-62 win over #16 seed James Madison on Friday afternoon at UD Arena.
Fifth-year head coach Tom Crean is 3-1 in the NCAA Tournament and is looking to guide the Hoosiers to the Sweet Sixteen for the second consecutive year. His teams have made seven appearances (six at Marquette) in the Big Dance and he is 8-6 overall. Crean is facing Temple for the first time in his 11-year coaching career.
The Hoosiers, who were the preseason #1 and finished the season ranked #4 in both national polls, are led by sophomore Cody Zeller. The seven-foot sophomore forward averages 16.7 ppg and hauls down 8.1 rpg. Junior guard Victor Oladipo was named the National Player of the Year by The Sporting News. A finalist for the Wooden Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy, Olapdipo has led the Big Ten in steals (2.2 spg) and is averaging 13.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game over 34 games this season.
Seniors Jordan Hulls (10.1 ppg) and Christian Watford (12.4 ppg) are also double-figure scorers to help balance out IU's attack. Watford (.818) and Hulls (.776) are the Hoosier's most effective free throw shooters, helping the team rank second in the nation for most free throws made per game (18.9).
Temple and Indiana will meet for the second time in the NCAA Tournament. In 1994 after the four-seeded Owls defeated Drexel, they fell to five-seed Indiana in the Round of 32, 67-58 in Landover, Md. That game pitted a pair of Hall of Fame coches in John Chaney and Bobby Knight. The Owls shut down Damon Brown (eight points) but IU received clutch three-point shooting from Brian Evans (18 points) and Todd Leary (15) to beat the Owls. Eddie Jones had 24 points and seven boards, while Aaron McKie poured in 18 along with nine rebounds in his collegiate farewell.
The Owls defeated Indiana the last time the teams met, which was back on Jan. 3, 2004 when it handed IU a 59-50 loss in Bloomington. Temple, who holds a narrow 5-4 edge in the all-time series, has won the last three meetings against the Hoosiers.
In the other third-round matchup in the East Region, #4-seeded Syracuse will face #12-seeded California out in San Jose, Calif. Should the Owls advance to the Sweet 16 in Washington, D.C., they would face the winner of that game.

Temple is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Fran Dunphy, who won his third career NCAA Tournament game on Friday when his Owls knocked off #8-seed NC State, 76-72. Dunphy played only seven of his 13 players in the game, which was the fewest he used in a game this season.
