BRONX, NY – The Temple men's basketball team (21-8, 9-5 A10) will take its five-game win streak on the road to play in the oldest venue in college basketball, Rose Hill Gym, to take on Fordham (6-23, 2-12 A10) Wednesday (7:00 p.m./OwlAccess/1210 AM WPHT). It will be the second of three opponents that share Rams as a nickname. The Owls defeated the Rhode Island Rams, 76-70, Saturday, and will conclude their regular season against the #19/21 VCU Rams on Sunday.
The Owls, under the direction of head coach Fran Dunphy, will match their season-high for consecutive wins with a victory over Fordham. Senior guard Khalif Wyatt, who picked up his fourth Big 5 Player of the Week honor Monday, leads the Atlantic 10 Conference and ranks 18th nationally in scoring with a 19.6 average. Wyatt also tops TU and ranks seventh in the conference in assists, dishing 4.1 per contest.
Senior forward Scootie Randall, who has scored in double figures in each of the last six games, averages 11.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.0 ppg., 6.3 rpg.) has averaged a double-double over the last five outings(12.0 ppg., 11.8 rpg.) while graduate student Jake O'Brien (9.1 ppg., .429 3pt%), who started in place of an injured Anthony Lee (hip pointer) Saturday, has scored in double figures in five straight games.
Fordham, under the direction of head coach Tom Pecora, enters the contest on a season-high nine game losing streak. The Rams, however, have played well at home, owning a 4-6 mark at Rose Hill, while also pushing Butler, UMass and Saint Joseph's to the limit before losing.
Junior guard Branden Frazier leads the Rams in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game, and has tallied double figures in 15 of the past 21 contests. Senior forward Chris Gaston, who missed the team's last game, an 86-52 loss at Saint Joseph's, due to illness, is averaging 14.5 points and 7.9 rebounds on the year while freshman guard Mandell Thomas (9.5 ppg.) is averaging 15.8 points over the past 10 games.
Temple leads the all-time series, 40-13, and has won the last six meetings overall and the last four at Rose Hill Gym.
