RICHMOND, Va. – Temple (17-23, 6-12) looks to get back in the hunt for the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament when it travels for the last time this season. The Owls close out their regular season road slate with their fifth and final trip to the State of Virginia, as they will play the Richmond Spiders (26-16, 9-6) for a three-game weekend Atlantic 10 Conference series.  Temple is 3-4 in the “Old Dominion” this season and already 2-1 in Richmond after taking the final two games of its series at VCU to win its first A-10 series this season.

The series gets underway Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Pitt Field and will continue Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. opening pitch before finishing the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.  Live stats will be available for all three games with the links provided above.

Head coach Ryan Wheeler will make his first trip back to Richmond since taking over the helm at Temple in 2012. Wheeler spent five seasons as the assistant coach for the Spiders, who reached the A-10 Championship in his final year there. The Owls are coming off a huge comeback win against Villanova on Tuesday, as they scored five runs in the eighth inning and are looking to use that momentum to spring them back into the playoff picture.  Owning a 6-12 record in conference play, Temple sits in 12th place sitting 4.5 games back of the Spiders who currently hold the last playoff spot.

Senior third baseman Henry Knabe is coming off one of his biggest games of the season as he batted 3-for-3 with three doubles including four RBIs against Villanova.  He owns the team lead in batting average with a .347 average in 150 at bats.  Knabe has 31 RBIs this season which leads the team as well.
Junior transfer Derek Peterson has been hitting out of the leadoff position since Jordan Queja's injury and is hitting .327 on the year including a team leading two home runs with 28 runs batted in.

The Owls will send out the same three weekend starters that they have used for the majority of the season. Patrick Peterson will take the ball Friday and will look to build off last Friday's winning effort against Charlotte. His twin brother, Eric Peterson, will try to get back on the winning side after dropping his last two outings. Senior southpaw Dan Moller will close out the weekend on Sunday.

RICHMOND NOTES…
Richmond enters play winning two out of their last three games against Saint Louis who is first overall in the conference with a 12-3 record.

The Spiders are led offensively by four batters who own batting averages over .300 on the year including Jacob Mayers (.362) who has played in 39 games and has seven home runs on the year which leads the team.  Richmond has another batter, Adam Forrer, who is a power hitter as well with his six homeruns this season.

Richmond will most likely send out their starters who have both started 11 games this season, Andrew Blum and Zak Sterling.  The pitchers have posted a 5-0 and 4-1 record respectively.  Both pitchers have pitched more than 50 innings this season and have allowed less than 25 runs.  Blum leads the team with the lowest ERA (3.09) among the starts with more than five on the year.

THE SERIES…
Temple looks to takes the series win as they lost two out of three against Richmond last year.  Richmond leads the all-time series 8-16-0.  The teams met last season at Skip Wilson Field in a three-game set that saw the Spiders take two out of three against the Owls.  Richmond won the opening game of the series last season by a score of 14-6 with the Owls winning the second game of the series in walk-off fashion, followed by Richmond winning the rubber match, 9-4.

This will be the last meeting between the teams as conference members, as Temple moves to the American Athletic Conference next year.
