Four Goals by Amber Youtz Power 11th-Ranked Field Hockey Past Monmouth, 6-0

PHILADELPHIA - Scoring a career-high four goals and adding two assists, junior Amber Youtz led #11 Temple field hockey to a 6-0 win over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field. Youtz, who recorded her third career hat trick, tallied 10 total points which ties for the most in a single game by any NCAA Division I player so far this season.

Youtz' four-goal performance is the most by any Temple field hockey player since All-American Alli Lokey in 2007. It is only the second four-goal game for an Owl since 1992.

After a 4-1 lead in shots on goal at halftime and a 2-0 lead, the Owls (4-2) turned it up in the second half with seven more shots on goal to Monmouth's one. The Hawks now stand at 0-4 on the season.

Junior Alyssa Delp also scored for Temple, and recorded an assist on Youtz' third goal of the day. Scoring the first goal of her career was sophomore Amanda Fuertsch, who tallied the Owls' final goal with less than three minutes remaining. Temple goalkeeper Lizzy Millen recorded her second shutout of the season, making four saves for the Owls.

From the top of the circle, less than three minutes into the game, Lauren Hunt passed to Youtz on the left post and she found the back of the cage for an early 1-0 lead.

Both teams had strong chances at times down the stretch of the first half, as Temple and Monmouth each had three penalty corner opportunities. Plays by the defense on both sides thwarted nearly every shot, until the 32nd minute of the first half when Youtz struck again.

Katie Foran's baseline drive and reverse pass found Youtz on the opposite post, and she tipped it in for her second goal of the day. The 2-0 lead would stand through halftime until the Owls added to their advantage early in the second half.

Youtz recorded her fifth point of the day with an assist on Delp's first goal of the season, scored just over six minutes into the second half. Youtz passed from the baseline to the far post where Delp was there to sweep it in.

The hat trick was completed with 26 minutes left in the game when the duo from goal number three reversed roles. Delp fed a pass across the goal to Youtz, who tipped it into the top of the cage for a 4-0 lead and her first hat trick of the season.

Youtz nearly scored her fourth goal in the 55th minute on a shot that was saved by Monmouth's Teresa Mathews, who recorded another big save just a few seconds later on a shot by the Owls' Rachel Steinman. With 12 minutes remaining, Mathews made another big save on a shot by Molly Doyle during a penalty corner play for Temple.

On the Owls' sixth corner of the day, they got one to go as Youtz put in goal number four off assists from Nicole Kroener and Mandi Shearer with nine minutes remaining.

With just under three minutes left, Youtz tallied her 10th point on the first career goal for Fuertsch, who received Youtz's pass from the far right and swept it in by far post.
