VILLANOVA, Pa. - The 14th-ranked Temple field hockey team won its first-ever BIG EAST Conference game on Friday night, defeating Villanova (2-5) on the road by a score of 4-1. Amber Youtz scored twice for the Owls (5-2) and also recorded an assist.

With less than four minutes elapsed in the game, Temple got two penalty corner chances in a row and put its first goal on the board during the second of those, when Amber Youtz passed to Rachel Steinman who scored the first goal of her career.

Twenty minutes into the half the Owls struck again in similar fashion, getting two penalty corners in a row and scoring on the second. This time it was Tricia Light on a rebound, with an assist from Alyssa Delp. The goal was the second of Light's career, and the 2-0 lead stood through halftime.

Youtz, the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, scored with an assist from Nicole Kroener less than three minutes into the second half for Temple's third goal. The Central Dauphin High School duo teamed up for the Owls' final goal, as Youtz took a pass from Katie Foran and put it into the right side of the cage in the 47th minute.

Villanova's lone goal came with just five and a half minutes remaining, when Kayla Kenney passed to Courtney Devine off a rebounded shot.

Temple's Lizzy Millen finished with four saves, while the Wildcats' Alex Diekmann made nine saves.

The Owls earned 18 penalty corners in the contest to Villanova's 11, and out-shot the Wildcats 22-13.

Next up for Temple is a non-conference home game against Longwood, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22.
