PHILADELPHIA - Katie Foran and Lauren Hunt teamed up for a pair of goals that lifted 17th-ranked Temple field hockey to a 2-1 BIG EAST win vs. Rutgers on Friday afternoon. The Owls now stand at 7-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Rutgers moves to 3-5 for the season and 0-2 in the BIG EAST.

The Scarlet Knights scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute on a direct corner, with Sofia Walia getting assists from Ashpal Bhogal and Jenn Staab. It would be Rutgers' only goal of the contest.

"There's a lot of confidence involved," said Temple head coach Amanda Janney, when asked about being down 1-0 early in the game. "This team works hard and they never give up and they give 100 percent all the time. I know we're going to get 70 minutes from our players and they've worked hard to be fit and faster than the other team, and it pays off in the second half for us."

Just over five minutes after the Rutgers goal, Temple tied the game when Hunt corralled the ball after a rebounded penalty corner shot and fed it to Foran for a goal.

Later in the second half, an apparent goal by the Owls was called back, and the 1-1 tie stood through halftime.

The Owls continued to dominate offensively in the second half, and their second goal came less than three minutes into the period. Hunt's shot was redirected by Foran into the left corner of the goal, and it would prove to be the game-winner for Temple.

"It was really great for us," said Foran after the game. "Our team plays really well together and we came out strong and gave it our all."

Rutgers' Sarah Stuby turned away a number of other chances for Temple, finishing with eight saves in the contest. Lizzy Millen made a pair of saves for the Owls, as the Scarlet Knights recorded just three shots on goal.

The Scarlet Knights earned a penalty corner with less than three minutes remaining in the game, but Temple's defense held strong and did not allow a shot in the remaining time.

Temple will be back in action in two days, as the Owls host a non-conference game on Sunday, Sept. 29 against Sacred Heart at 2:00 p.m.
