NEW YORK, N.Y. - It was a long but successful day of competition for the Temple men's and women's track and field teams at the Albany Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 17. Nearly 20 teams were represented at the meet, which was held at the Armory Track & Field Center.
Junior Margo Britton had another strong week, placing third in the weight throw with a personal-record mark of 16.88m, improving upon her ECAC qualifying standard from the previous meet. Britton placed first among collegiate athletes in the shot put with a season-best mark of 14.98m, also improving on her ECAC qualifying standard in that event.
Freshman Jimmia McCluskey took fourth among collegiate athletes in the long jump with a personal-best 5.83m, which is an ECAC qualifying mark. Fellow freshman Bionca St. Fleur ran a personal-best time of 25.59 in the 200m, and sophomore Demeshia Davis ran a personal-best time of 7.86 in the 60m dash.
"The girls continued to compete at a high level this week," said Temple head coach Eric Mobley. "They are getting better and getting stronger, and that's the progress we want to see. Our guys are also working really hard and improving week-by-week."
The men's side did not feature top 10 performances, but Mobley was pleased the effort nonetheless. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Brandon Atkins, A.J. Singh, Joseph Ho and Marcus Robertson placed in the top 25 of 35 teams. The men's team did not compete for placement but the women's team finished 12th of 19 teams.
