PHILADELPHIA - The first day of competition for Temple men's track & field at the 120th Penn Relays has concluded, with the Owls having competed in two field events as well as two relays.
Senior Gabe Pickett was just three centimeters off his personal best in the Men's Long Jump Eastern Division, placing fifth with a mark of 7.04 meters. Also in the field was teammate and fellow senior Dylan Pensyl, who took 12th with a jump of 6.73 meters.
The men's 4x200 meter relay team placed 28th in the heats with a season-best time of 1:28.75, but just narrowly missed advancing to the IC4A Final on Saturday. The Owls' team was made up of Elijah Hargrove, Alimamy Kallay, Jamal Williams and Adam Hasan.
That same foursome had to recover from an earlier mishap that saw them not be able to finish the 4x100 meter relay.
In the Men's Shot Put Eastern Division, junior Evan Battallio placed 23rd with a mark of 14.38 meters.
Pickett will be the lone competitor for Temple at the Penn Relays on Saturday, as he is set to take part in the triple jump at 9:00 a.m.
