Women's Basketball Travels to Texas for Two Games

THIS WEEK
Temple embarks on its second-longest trip of the season, heading to Texas for two American Athletic Conference games. First TU faces SMU on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Moody Coliseum at 3:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. ET. The SMU men play Memphis in the opening game at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET.
The Owls then head south to Houston on Tuesday, Feb. 4 for a 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET game with the Cougars at Hofheinz Pavilion.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls, under sixth-year head coach Tonya Cardoza, stand 10-10 overall and 4-5 in American Athletic Conference play after a 93-56 loss to No. 1 Connecticut on Jan. 28.
After 20 games, freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) is the Owls' leading scorer with 13.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Senior Natasha Thames (Port Huron, Mich.) follows with 9.5 ppg and a team-best 8.4 rpg. Senior Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury, N.C.) adds 9.5 ppg and 6.1 rpg. Junior Tyonna Williams (Fort Washington, Md.) adds 9.3 points and a Conference-best .882 shooting from the free throw line. Sophomore Erica Covile (Detroit, Mich.) averages 9.0 ppg and 5.9 rpg.

The Mustangs, under the guidance of 23rd-year head coach Rhonda Rompola, stand 13-7 overall and 4-5 in American play after a 66-47 win over Cincinnati on Jan. 28.
Senior guard Keena Mays is the Mustangs' top scorer with 19.6 ppg and 5.8 rpg. Senior forward Akil Simpson follows with 13.8 ppg and a team-best 8.1 rpg, while junior forward Destynee Hives-McCray averages 11.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg.
SERIES VS. MUSTANGS
This is the just the second meeting between Temple and SMU in women's basketball action and the Owls' first trip to Dallas.
In their first meeting on Jan. 14 at the Liacouras Center, Temple claimed an 80-66 win in front of more than 1,700 school students in the Noon game.
Freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald and junior Tyonna Williams led the Owls with 16 points apiece. The conference's best free throw shooter, Williams went a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. Brown finished with a season-high 15 points, including four three-pointers. Shipp had 12 points. Senior Natasha Thames grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Four Mustang starters scored in double figures, led by Keena Mays 23 pints. Kiara Perry had 12 points.

The Cougars, under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Todd Buchanan, stand 4-16 overall and 0-9 in American play after a 71-53 loss at UCF on Jan. 29. Houston plays at UCF?(Feb. 1) before hosting Temple.
Senior forward Te'onna Campbell is the Cougars' top scorer with 10.5 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Senior center Yasmeen Thompson grabs a team-best 8.1 rpg.

HAVE SUITCASE, WILL TRAVEL
Temple embarked on its longest trip of the season on Friday, Dec. 13, heading 2,331 miles west to Montana. TU then flew directly to Syracuse for a Dec. 16 contest. The Owls, which relied on their wings to get them back home, covered 4,836 total miles on the trip.
TU will travel to Texas this week for American Athletic Conference play, meeting SMU (Feb. 1) and Houston (Feb. 4). That trip, however, will only cover 3,275 miles roundtrip.
UP NEXT
Temple continues its Texas trip with a stop in Houston on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The next home game is Sunday, Feb. 9 against Memphis at 1:30 p.m. at the Liacouras Center.
