PHILADELPHIA –
The Temple men's and women's gymnastics teams are set to host their first home meet of the 2014 season.  The men will host Springfield and Brockport club team on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall while the women will be hosting the Sixth Annual Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational at 1:00 p.m.

The Owls will look to top Springfield for the third time this season.  Both wins for Temple this season have occurred against Springfield.

Temple started its season at the West Point Open where they earned fifth place in the six team event with a total score of 398.65, while Springfield placed sixth with 388.950.

One week later the Owls topped the Pride at the Navy Open.  Temple earned fourth place in the five team event with a score of 398.05.  The Pride finished behind Temple with a score of 391.80.

Brendan Williams and Evan Eigner have each achieved solid results on individual events.  Williams has achieved this at the vault and pommel horse.  At the West Point Open, he earned the Owl's best score at the event with a 13.9 at both events.  The score on the pommel horse qualified him for the individual event finals, and he placed fifth with a score of 13.30.

Eigner has seen success on the still rings.  At the West Point Open, he scored a 13.80 and had the highest difficulty score of any events for the Owls with a 5.80.  He had the third best score of the Navy Open with a 9.2 and 9.3 execution score from the judges to earn a 15.05 and third place for the event.  The score was a career high for him and earned him ECAC Specialist of the Week.  It was the second highest in
Temple history since the open scoring system has been adopted.

This will be the fifth meet for the women this season as they host Cornell, West Chester, Ursinus, and Penn.  For the last six years, Temple University has hosted this annual home meet in remembrance of the late Ken Anderson, who served as the head coach of the school's women's gymnastics program for 21 years before passing away in 2008 after a long battle with cancer.

During his tenure as Temple's women's gymnastics coach, Anderson directed seven teams to the NCAA Regionals, with his 1992 Owl team advancing to the one NCAA Championships. The all-time winningest women's gymnastics coach in school history, he also guided five Temple teams to the USA Gymnastics National Championships and a school record 235 wins. His 1988-89 and 1991-92 squads posted identical 20-6 won-loss records, the most wins for an Owl team. Anderson earned numerous accolades as a head coach, including Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1987 and 1992. He also earned the NCAA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year award in 1989.

After traveling to Washington D.C., Bridgeport, Conn., and even Anchorage, Alaska, the women look to have a successful home meet.  This will be the first time this season competing against West Chester and Ursinus.  They have faced Cornell and Penn already at the George Washington Invitational.  The Owls finished third in the four team event with a score of 186.775.  Cornell finished second with 188.750 while Penn was fourth with 183.125.

Freshman Rebecca McAndrew in her first collegiate meet stepped in for an injured teammate and led the way on floor exercise with a routine earning her a 9.425.  McAndrew was selected the ECAC Coaches' Selection of the Week for the performance.

The Owls placed second in a tri-meet at Bridgeport with a score of 188.350.  Reagan Oliveri posted the highest score of all three teams on beam with a 9.70.

Temple then traveled to Anchorage, Alaska for two meets the following week.  The Owls came extremely close to beating Alaska Anchorage.  UAA won the first meet by less than one point and the second one by two points.

This will be the first of two home meets for both men's and women's teams.  The men will host Illinois at Chicago and Air Force on Saturday, Feb. 15th at 7:30 p.m.  The women will host the ECAC Championships on Saturday, Mar. 22nd at 12:00 p.m.
