Field Hockey Remains at #16 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll

10.21.14 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - Heading into the final three games of the regular season, Temple field hockey remains nationally ranked for a seventh week in a row. The Owls, at 11-5 overall, are ranked 16th for a second straight week in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.

Since entering the rankings in week one, Temple has been as high as #13 and has not been ranked lower than #16 in the Top 20 poll. In the weekly release of the NCAA RPI for field hockey, also announced Tuesday, the Owls stand at #13.

Temple is coming off a 1-1 week, narrowly losing 3-2 at then-#19 Old Dominion but rebounding for a 4-1 win at William & Mary the next day. Junior forward Alyssa Delp was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after a strong performance at ODU, scoring one goal and assisting on the other for the Owls.

Senior forward Amber Youtz scored three goals for the Owls last week, and has scored 10 of Temple's last 17 goals in four games. With 1.31 goals per game, Youtz now leads all players in NCAA Division I. Her 21 goals this season tie for seventh all-time in a single season at Temple, and she is just one goal shy of the 22 she scored as a sophomore.

With 63 career goals and 148 career points, Youtz ranks fourth all-time at Temple on both lists. She needs five more goals to tie for the third spot.

Goalkeeping has been a strength for Temple all season long, and senior goalkeeper Lizzy Millen ranks seventh in the nation with a saves percentage of .795. Millen leads the conference in that category and ranks second with 5.56 saves per game.

Sophomore Paige Gross leads the Owls with 10 assists, and her 0.63 assists per game average is good enough for 25th in the nation.

As a team, Temple ranks in the top 20 in six statistical categories, including saves percentage (eighth, .789) and goals per game (15th, 3.00).

The Owls are tied for second in the BIG EAST Conference at 2-1 with two games remaining. They will play at Georgetown this Friday, Oct. 24, and then return home for a non-conference contest against Lafayette on Sunday. Temple's final regular season game is at home against defending NCAA and BIG EAST champion #5 UConn for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The top four teams in the league will advance to the BIG EAST Tournament, set for Nov. 7 and 9 at Providence College.
