10.28.14 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - For the eighth straight week, Temple field hockey is ranked in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. This week the Owls remain at #16, which has been their ranking for the past two weeks as well. In the NCAA Field Hockey RPI rankings, Temple remains at #13.

The Owls have one regular season game remaining before the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. Temple will host #4 UConn on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day. The Huskies are the defending NCAA and BIG EAST Champion, but the #1 seed in next week's conference tournament is still up for grabs.

UConn currently leads the BIG EAST with a 4-0 record, while Temple and ODU stand at 3-1. The Owls will be no lower than the #3 seed in the tournament, set for Nov. 7 and 9 at Providence College.

The Owls are 13-5 overall and have won three straight, with the last two being 4-0 shutouts against Georgetown and Lafayette.

Temple swept this week's BIG EAST Weekly Awards for a second time this season. Senior forward Amber Youtz was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for a third time, while junior defender Taylor Shronk earned her first BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honor, and was the first non-goalie to get the award this season.

Youtz leads all players in NCAA Division I in both goals (25) and points (57) this season. She had a hand in all eight of the Owls' goals last week, scoring four and assisting on the other four. Youtz has scored 67 career goals, and in the Temple record books, she stands just one goal away from tying for third all-time. She is also in fourth place with 160 career points, and stands in eighth place all-time with 26 career assists.

Senior Nicole Kroener, who has started in all 81 games for Temple in her career, stands in sixth place all-time with 28 career assists.

Rounding out the senior class is goalkeeper Lizzy Millen, who ranks third in the nation with a saves percentage of .800, and ranks seventh all-time at Temple with 396 career saves.

Also high up in the national rankings is sophomore Paige Gross, who stands in 32nd place with 0.56 assists per game. She leads the Owls this season with 10 assists overall, while Kroener is close behind with eight assists this season.
