Men's Crew Closes Fall by Winning Three of Four in New Jersey

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Temple men's crew ended the fall racing season on a high note, winning three of four races at the Braxton Memorial Regatta on Sunday. The Owls added a second-place finish as four boats competed at the Lake Mercer event.
Temple saw wins from its varsity eight, its second varsity eight, and its freshman eight.
In the varsity eight race, the Owls recorded a time of 5:58.43 to out-pace Villanova, Colgate, Marietta, and Binghamton. The boat was made up of Truman Levine (coxswain), Conor Murphy (stroke), Charles Anderson (seven seat), Bryan Berry (six seat), Evan Hammond (five seat), Tom Robbins (four seat), Gary Wielgus (three seat), Collin McKinney (two seat), and Ryan Dartnell (bow).
The Temple second varsity eight also recorded a win, with a time of 6:21.32, nearly 13 seconds faster than second place NY Maritime. The Owls also defeated Ithaca, Loyola, and Binghamton, using a line-up that consisted of Julia Wolanski (coxswain), Hunter Devine (stroke), Stephen Lindeman (seven seat), Brian Reifsnyder (six seat), Nikolas Dula (five seat), Matthew Minns (four seat), Dan Sipzner (three seat), Michael Pellegrini (two seat), and David Buckley (bow).
The Owls' freshman eight saw the largest margin of victory on the day, as the Owl boat finished in 7:13.68, over 33 seconds faster than second-place Penn State. Temple also cruised past Ithaca and Binghamton with a lineup of Samuel Vecchione (coxswain), Jeffrey Brenner (stroke), Austin Theuret (seven seat), Andrew Grochowski (six seat), Joseph Fairweather (five seat), Andrew Collins (four seat), Reinier Smit (three seat), James Case (two seat), and Tyler Martin (bow).
Temple's four boat (7:02.64) was under two seconds off the pace of Loyola (7:00.98), with the Owls topping Ithaca, NY Maritime "A", Penn State and NY Maritime "B." The boat was made up of Kati Funck (coxswain), Vittorio DiPentino (stroke), Robert Byrne (three seat), Nick Matousch (two seat), and Dylan McCreavy (bow).
Today's races closed out the fall season for the Owls. Temple will be back in action in the spring.
