Men's Basketball Hosts #10/10 Kansas Monday at Wells Fargo Center

12.20.14 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - It will be a Holiday treat for Temple men's basketball fans Monday as the Owls (7-4) host the #10/10 Kansas Jayhawks (9-1) at the Wells Fargo Center.  The game will be nationally-televised by ESPN2 and broadcast by 1210 AM WPHT.

The game will feature two of the winningest programs of all-time as Kansas owns the second most wins among all NCAA Division I programs (2,134) while Temple is currently sixth with 1,829 victories.

Head coach Fran Dunphy's charges will be looking to post their sixth win over the last seven season against a Top 10 team when they take the court for the 7:00 p.m. tip.  The Wells Fargo Center is the site of one of those upsets as the Owls toppled #3/5 Duke, 78-73, three years ago at the arena (Jan. 4, 2012).

It is the fourth time that Temple has played at the Wells Fargo Center under Dunphy and once again the Owls will ride the Broad Street Line to the arena Monday evening.

Senior co-captain Will Cummings (14.5 ppg., 6.0 rpg., 3.7 apg.), who posted his first-ever double-double (11 pts, 10 rebs) at Delaware, continues to pace the Temple attack while the influx of transfers Jesse Morgan and Devin Coleman gave TU's offense an immediate boost Thursday in the 82-62 win over the Blue Hens.

Morgan, a senior who last played at UMass during the 2012-13 season, tied junior guard Quenton DeCosey (14.8 ppg.) for team-high honors with 16 points. The sharpshooter drained four-of-eight three-pointers while also leading the squad with seven boards.  Coleman, who actually played against Temple while at Clemson last season, came off the bench to drain three treys, part of a season-best 16 from behind the line.

Redshirt sophomore Daniel Dingle (6.7 ppg.) and junior transfer Jaylen Bond 6.1 ppg., 6.2 rpg.) round out the starting five.  The Owls now have a 10-man rotation with Josh Brown (8.0 ppg.), Devontae Watson (2.2 ppg.), Mark Williams (6.3 ppg.) and Obi Enechionyia (4.0 ppg.) joining Coleman in garnering quality minutes as reserves.

Kansas, winners of seven straight following a 72-40 loss to #1/1 Kentucky, is led by junior forward Perry Ellis (13.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg.).  Sophomore guard Fran Mason III also averages double figures (10.9 ppg.) for head coach Bill Self's balanced attack.,

The Jayhawks edged #13 Utah, 63-60, at the Sprint Center Thursday, holding off the Utes comeback from a 21-point deficit with clutch free throw shooting.  Kansas defeated Lafayette, 96-69, Saturday afternoon.

Kansas owns an 8-3 lead in the series and has won the last three encounters.  Temple's last win against Kansas came at the Meadowlands, a 74-66 OT upset of the #1 Jayhawks on Dec. 22, 1995.
