Nicole Kroener Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team

PHILADELPHIA - For her impressive credentials both on and off the field, Temple senior Nicole Kroener has been named to the 2014 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team. The team, made up of 11 deserving student-athletes, is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be at least in her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.
Kroener is an accounting major with a 3.70 grade-point-average, and has twice been named to Temple's President's Honor Roll. As a team co-captain this season, Kroener was named to the 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Second Team, the 2014 BIG EAST First Team and to the 2014 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. She finished an impressive career with 30 assists to rank fifth all-time at Temple, and she started in all 84 games in her four years as an Owl.
Temple has had two others named to the team in the past seven seasons. Former standout and later assistant coach Charise Young earned the honor in both 2007 and 2009, and more recently, Katie Briglia was named to the team in 2012.
The Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Field Hockey Performer of the Year is Megan Keenan, a junior at Ursinus College who was named both the Centennial Conference and South Region Player of the Year.

Keenan and Kroener were joined on the team by Gwynedd Mercy's Stephanie Bacho, Cabrini's Kerry Anne Farrell, Rowan's Karlee Henderson, Widener's Maggie Karmeris, La Salle's Colleen Kempf, Drexel's Jenna Knouse, Saint Joseph's Kristen Moisey, Immaculata's Ashley O'Donnell, and Delaware Valley's Kelsey Zook.
