Men's Basketball Hosts #23 SMU on Sunday for Hooter's Birthday

PHILADELPHIA - The annual celebration of Hooter the Owl's Birthday at a men's basketball game is set for Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 p.m. when Temple hosts #23 SMU on CBS Sports Network. Mascots from all around the area will be on hand to entertain the fans and celebrate with Hooter.
SMU (20-5, 9-3) broke into the Top 25 in the Associated Press poll on Feb. 10. The Mustangs are not ranked in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, but they have the third-most votes of the 13 teams receiving votes. For the first time in program history, Temple (6-17, 1-10) is facing five nationally ranked teams in a row.

• Temple and SMU are meeting for the fourth time, and for the second time in 10 days after the Owls fell 75-52 at SMU on Feb. 6.
• Prior to this year, the most recent meeting was in 1955-56 when the Owls beat the Mustangs 90-81 in the NCAA Final Four third-place game.
• Both head coaches have played four games against the other team, but only the most recent one with their current school.
• The Mustangs are led by sophomores Nic Moore (guard) with 13.9 ppg and Markus Kennedy (forward) with 12.1 ppg to go with a team-best 7.4 rpg.
• Larry Brown, a Hall of Fame Coach who guided the Philadelphia 76ers for six seasons, is in his second season as SMU's head coach.

• Anthony Lee (14.0 ppg) leads the conference in rebounding (8.9 rpg), and has 10 double-doubles on the season.
• The Owls' top four scorers, who have accounted for 83 percent of the team's points, produced just 26 percent of last year's total points.
• For the first time in program history, Temple will play five straight games against teams in the Top 25. The Owls faced four in a row in 1995-96.
• Quenton DeCosey (14.9 ppg, 9th AAC) scored in double figures in the first 17 games of the season and has done so in 20 of 23 overall.
• Will Cummings is second on the team and fifth in the league with 16.3 ppg, and has scored in double figures in 19 of 21 games played.
