Men's Basketball Hosts Houston on Saturday Night

PHILADELPHIA - The final two home games of the season for Temple men's basketball will be played in the next four days, and first up for the Owls is a meeting with Houston on Saturday, March 1 at 9:00 p.m. The game between Temple and Houston will be the first ever in Philadelphia, and will be broadcast by ESPNU.
As part of the Sixth Man Challenge, Temple fans will be able to donate money to Coaches vs. Cancer by visiting the promotional table on the concourse (in front of Section 108). All fans who donate money will receive a Temple key tag, rewards from various sponsors and the opportunity to win a MAC Book Pro. Fans are also encouraged to donate money by visiting www.sixthmanchallenge.com.Â
Houston comes into the game with a 14-14 overall record and a 6-9 American Athletic Conference mark after winning two straight, including an upset of #21 Memphis.
The Owls stand at 7-20 overall and 2-13 in league play, and are coming off a stretch of five games against Top 25 teams. Temple came out ahead in one of those contests, defeating #23 SMU 71-64 on Feb. 16.
Headlines:
• Temple is playing the fifth-toughest schedule in NCAA Division I according to the ESPN RPI rankings.
• Temple is one of only five teams in Division I to have four players averaging 13 or more points per game.
• The Owls' top four scorers, who have accounted for 83 percent of the team's points, produced just 26 percent of last year's total points.
• For the first time since Feb. 20, 2008, the Owls had three players with 20 or more points in their overtime loss at #22/24 Memphis on Feb. 22.
• Dalton Pepper tops the team in scoring (16.9 ppg, 4th AAC), three-pointers (2.7 pg, 2nd AAC), and minutes played (37.1 mpg, 1st AAC).
• Pepper led all scorers with 24 points in the Owls' 71-64 win over #23 SMU on Feb. 16, and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
• Leading AAC?rebounder Anthony Lee has missed two of the last three games with injuries to his knee and toe. His status is day-to-day.
• Quenton DeCosey (15.3 ppg, 10th AAC) scored in double figures in the first 17 games of the season and has done so in 24 of 27 overall.
• Will Cummings is second on the team and fifth in the league with 16.3 ppg, and has scored in double figures in 23 of 25 games played.
• Temple and Houston are meeting for the second time in program history and also the second time this season after Houston won on its home court, 88-74 on Feb. 9.
• Houston coach James Dickey faced the Owls one other time when he was head coach at Texas Tech, losing 67-64 in double OT on Dec. 20, 1994.
• The Cougars have won two in a row including a 77-68 upset win vs. #21/22 Memphis on Thursday night.
• Junior forward TaShawn Thomas leads Houston with 15.8 ppg (7th in AAC) and 8.4 rpg (2nd in AAC).
