CHANDLER, Ariz. - Temple field hockey has been recognized as a 2013 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.Â
The Owls' GPA for the fall semester was 3.49, tying the highest GPA for the program, a record the Owls also achieved in the fall of 2012.
In addition, 17 of the 24 student-athletes on Temple's team were named to the National Academic Squad for having a GPA of 3.3 or above during that same semester. That's an increase of four over the 13 named to the squad a year ago. Seniors Molly Doyle and Lauren Hunt are both four-year recipients of the National Academic Squad honor.
One of the 17, freshman Elle Hempt, has been named a Scholar of Distinction for acheiving a GPA of 3.9 or above. Hempt is a speech, language and hearing science major.
