Baseball Loses to VCU 14-5

VCU scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning. After a runner reached base on a fielding error, he was knocked in on a triple. A second error allowed in another run later in the inning.
Temple answered with a run in the fifth inning. Jimmy Kerrigan and Daniel Dragos both singled to start the inning. Derek Peterson advanced both base runners with a sacrifice bunt. Rob Amaro then grounded out to shortstop, scoring Kerrigan.
VCU then scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to stretch their lead to three. The Owls answered right back the next inning. David Hall led off the inning with a single through the left side. Josh Mason then followed with a RBI triple. Then with one out, Kerrigan ground out to second base and scored Mason.
The Rams then scored three runs in the bottom the sixth inning. They added four more in the seventh and three in the eighth.
The Owls scored one run each in the seventh and eighth inning. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Frank D'Agostino doubled to left field to knock in Peterson. In the eighth, Mason doubled to center field to start the inning. He advanced to third on a field error and scored on Sean Arnott's grounder to third base.
Starter Preston Hill went five innings for Temple, allowing five hits, four runs (two unearned) and one walk with four strikeouts.
Temple will stay in Virginia as they face Radford for a two game series on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday's and Wednesday's games are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
