3.29.14 | Men's Track and Field
RICHMOND, Va. - The second and final day of the Fred Hardy Invitational for Temple men's track & field was highlighted by a first-place performance in the long jump from senior Gabe Pickett. Pickett has now placed first or second in all three jumping events in which he has competed over the last eight days.
His jump of 6.98m on Saturday was shy of a personal-best, but still good enough for the win among a field of over 30 competitors. Sophomore Jamal Williams took 11th place in the long jump with a mark of 6.30m.
Five Owls set personal-bests in the 200m dash, led by freshman Adam Hasan who placed sixth with a personal-best time of 22.26. Junior A.J. Singh was 11th in a PR time of 22.46, and junior Alimamy Kallay was 20th in a PR time of 22.80. Also with personal-best times were sophomore Elijah Hargrove (23.05) and freshman Joseph Ho (23.91). Ho earned an 11th-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.00.
Hasan placed 16th in the 100m with a time of 11.21, followed closey by Kallay who placed 22nd in 11.30. Freshman Jefferey Craskey was just over half a second off his personal best in the 800m, coming in 33rd with a time of 2:01.36.
Freshman Praneeth Gottipati had a strong performance in the 3000m, placing 10th in a personal-best time of 9:25.45.
The Owls' 4x100m relay team bettered last week's performance by one one-hundredth of a second, placing fourth in an IC4A-qualifying time of 42.47. Making up the team were Williams, Kallay, Hargrove and Hasan. The 4x800m team also ran a faster time than a week ago, placing 11th in 3:26.02. Kallay, Singh, freshman Joseph Sulon and senior Marcus Robertson made up the "A" team in that event for Temple.
Sophomore Kyle Davis was 14th in the discus (38.33m) and junior Evan Battallio recorded a personal-best, placing 23rd with a throw of 33.35m.
