Baseball Drops 12-4 Decision to Delaware

AMBLER, Pa. –Temple baseball team opened its home schedule with a 12-4 loss to Delaware in the opening round of the Liberty Bell Classic at Skip Wilson Field on Tuesday.
The opening game of the Liberty Bell Classic for both teams was originally scheduled for last Tuesday, but was cancelled due to winter weather creating unplayable conditions.
The Owls fell to 7-14 overall, while the Blue Hens improved to 11-14 overall.
Delaware scored its first run in the top of the first inning. The Blue Hens led 12-0 after five innings. The Owls scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth as Robert Amaro sacrificed Bobby Heitman home after he hit a triple to get on base.
TU two runs in the bottom of the eighth. The first two batters—Heitzman and Derek Peterson— each reached after getting hit by pitches and scored off of Amaro's two RBI single to left field.
Down 12-3, Temple rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Sean Arnott scored after reaching on a walk. With bases loaded, Amaro smacked the ball to the third baseman, but the Blue Hens turned a double play to seal their win.
On the day, Heitzman went 2-for-2 with a triple. Amaro had two hits and three RBI in four at-bats.
On the mound, the Owls utilized five pitchers with equal playing time. Patrick Krall pitched 2.0 innings and gave up no hits or runs.
Temple opens home play in the American Athletic Conference with Cincinnati on Friday, April 4 at 3 p.m. at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J.
