PHILADELPHIA – Temple baseball will host Cincinnati at Campbell's Field for a weekend series starting on Friday at 3:00 p.m. This marks the first American Athletic Conference home games for Temple with Campbell's Field serving as the home stadium. Saturday's game at Campbell's Field is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. while Sunday's game will start at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's game was moved to Skip Wilson Field in Ambler, Pa. earlier this week, but has now been moved backed to Campbell's Field. The Owls come into the weekend with a 7-14, 2-4 record. A live stream will be available for all three games. Temple played its first home game of the season this Tuesday, a 12-4 loss to Delaware. The Owls opened conference play at Memphis, winning two of three games against the Tigers. They were swept at UCF last weekend.
Four players have started every game for the Owls this season with seniors leading the way. Senior Derek Peterson is hitting a team-leading .295, with 13 of his 23 hits going for doubles for a slugging percentage of .500. Peterson hit his first homerun of the season last weekend at UCF. Senior Rob Amaro, who leads the team with 23 RBI, is hitting .284 and has a slugging percentage of .446. Sophomore Jimmy Kerrigan, the only underclassman to start all 21 games, has managed a .294 average and is third on the team with 20 hits. Kerrigan also leads the team with five stolen bases. He is second in walks with 10. Senior Daniel Dragos, the third senior to start every game, leads the team with 11 walks.
Three seniors will serve as the starting pitchers this weekend. Matt Hockenberry has been the number one pitcher for Temple all season. Hockenberry has started six games with a 3-1 record and 3.12 ERA. In 40.1 innings pitch, he has 23 strikeouts while only walking nine. He has allowed only four extra-base hits, all of which have been doubles. He helped Temple win its first ever American Athletic Conference game at Memphis, pitching seven and two-thirds innings with only one earned run. Hill is 0-4 with a 6.52 ERA in six starts. He is tied with Hockenberry for the team lead in strikeouts with 23. Kuehn has started two Sunday, conference games after starting the season a relief pitcher and leading the team with five saves last year. Kuehn is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. Opponents are only batting .191 against him. Zach Batchelor has been the top reliever all season for Temple. Opponents have a batting average of .196 and zero extra-base hits against him.
ABOUT CAMPBELL'S FIELD…
Entering its first year as a member of the American Athletic Conference, Temple University will play all but two of its home conference games at beautiful Campbell's Field, home of the Camden Riversharks.
Opening its doors in May of 2001, Campbell's Field has quickly become one of the premier minor league baseball stadiums in the country. Famous for its fantastic views of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the Philadelphia skyline, the stadium was honored as "Ballpark of the Year" in 2003 by Digitalballparks.com, and in 2004 by Baseball America. The field, measuring 325 feet down the lines and 405 feet to dead center, sits in a 6,500 seat stadium situated along the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey.
"We are truly excited to be able to provide a first class venue for our team to perform in," said Temple University Director of Athletics Kevin G. Clark. "We are also grateful to Camden Riversharks President and General Manager Adam Lorber and his staff for their help in bringing this partnership to fruition."
In his third year at the helm of the Temple Baseball program, head coach Ryan Wheeler echoes Clark's sentiments.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Temple Baseball..." Wheeler said. "To play in a first-class stadium, against the caliber of competition in the American Athletic Conference will be great for our fans, as well as college baseball in the area."
"We look forward to hosting Temple's home conference games," said Camden Riversharks President and General Manager Adam Lorber. "Campbell's Field has all the amenities needed for their fans and players, and we will do everything possible to make them feel at home."
