FIRST PITCH
Temple travels to Connecticut for American Athletic Conference play. The Owls visit UConn on Thursday, April 17 at 3 p.m.; Friday, April 18 at 1 p.m.; and Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m. All games will be played at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls, under third-year head coach Ryan Wheeler, stand 10-18 overall and 5-7 in American Athletic Conference play.
After 28 games, senior 1B Robert Amaro is the Owls' leading hitter with a .311 batting average. He has 15 runs, 32 hits, two home runs, and a team-best 28 RBI in 28 starts. Sophomore OF Jimmy Kerrigan (.299) follows with 10 runs on 29 hits and 10 RBI. A starter in all 28 games, senior 3B Derek Peterson (.283) scored a team-best 21 runs on 30 hits with a team-leading 15 doubles. Senior OF Bobby Heitzman (.270) has scored eight runs on 10 hits and has five doubles, a triple, and seven RBI.
On the mound, senior RHP Matt Hockenberry (3.68 ERA) sports a 4-2 record in 51.1 innings pitched, the most of any Owl. He's fanned 33 batters and walked 12. Redshirt senior RHP Ryan Kuehn (3.96 ERA) has pitched in nine contests with four starts. He has fanned 14 batters and walked 10. Freshman RHP Patrick Vanderslice (7.89 ERA) has appeared in 11 games with two starts. He's struck out 14 batters and walked seven.

The Huskies, under the guidance of 11th-year head coach Jim Penders, stand 17-17 overall and 4-4 in American play.
Sophomore 1B Bobby Melley (.368) is the Huskies' leading hitter. In 34 games, he has 46 hits, 20 runs, and a team-best 27 RBI. Junior IF/C Blake Davey (.354) follows with 40 hits, 29 runs, and 20 RBI. Sophomore IF/OF Bryan Daniello (.289) has 37 hits, 21 runs, and 14 RBI. Davey is this week's American Player of the Week after racking up six hits, including three home runs, in last weekend's series over Cincinnati.
On the mound, freshman RHP Andrew Zapata (1.19 ERA) is 2-1 in 10 appearances. He's pitched 37.2 innings, striking out 21 and walking 23. Freshman RHP Patrick Ruotolo (1.63) is 1-3 in 15 games. He's thrown 27.2 innings with 33 strikeouts and 15 walks.
SERIES VS. HUSKIES
Connecticut holds a 3-2 series edge over Temple since the teams first met in 1940. This is their first meeting in American Athletic Conference play.
In their last meeting on March 6, 1974, Temple claimed a 5-2 win in Florida.
