Baseball Drops Non-Conference Road Game to Delaware 9-3

NEWARK, Del. – Temple baseball lost a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon to Delaware 9-3 at Bob Hannah Stadium. The loss drops Temple's record to 12-21 while Delaware improves to 18-19.
Delaware claimed a lead in the second inning with two runs off starting pitcher Connor Staskey. Staskey pitched four and one-third innings in his second start of the season. He gave up seven runs (five earned), three walks, and five hits with two strikeouts.
Temple cut the lead to one in the fourth with its first run of the game. Robert Amaro led off with a single to the pitcher. Amaro went to third on a double down the left field line by Jimmy Kerrigan. Bobby Heitzman grounded out to second base that allowed Amaro to score.
The Blue Hens secured the game with seven runs in the fifth inning off Staskey and Preston Hill.
The Owls scored two runs in the eighth. Derek Peterson started the inning with a walk. Peterson scored all of the way from first base on a triple to left center by Robert Amaro. Amaro reached home plate the very next at-bat on a wild pitch.
Zach Batchelor and Patrick Krall both pitched a scoreless inning of relief with no walks. Krall had one strikeout.
Reyn Sugai, Andrew Nist, and Amaro each had two hits each. Amaro was responsible for all three Temple runs with a RBI and two runs.
The Owls continue non-conference play this weekend due to the odd number of teams in the American Athletic Conference that forces one team each weekend to play non-conference games. They will travel to Monmouth on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. start. The Hawks will then come to Skip Wilson Field for games on Saturday and Sunday with both games scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
