Baseball Falls on the Road to Monmouth 4-2

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Temple baseball fell on the road to Monmouth on Friday evening 4-2 at Monmouth University Baseball Field. Temple drops to 12-22 while Monmouth improves to 13-20.
Temple scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Derek Peterson homered to right center with one out for his second home run of the season.
The Owls' second run of the game came in the fourth. Robert Amaro tripled to left field to lead off the inning. Daniel Dragos singled to left field to knock in Amaro.
Monmouth tied the game up after each run scored by Temple in the next innings. The Hawks used two RBI singles off starting pitcher Matt Hockenberry in the seventh inning to win the game.
Hockenberry gave up 12 hits and four runs in six and two-thirds innings. He had five strikeouts and one walk.
Patrick Krall finished the game for Temple in relief, getting the final four outs with any walks or hits given up.
Jimmy Kerrigan and Peterson both had two hits in four at-bats to lead Temple at the plate.
Temple will host the second and third games of the weekend series. Saturday's and Sunday's game are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
