Baseball Faces Monmouth in Non-Conference Action This Weekend

FIRST PITCH
Temple takes a weekend off from American Athletic Conference play to face non-conference opponent Monmouth.
Action begins on Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m. at Monmouth Baseball Field in West Long Branch, N.J.
On Saturday, April 26, play moves to Skip Wilson Field with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m. The teams close out the three-game series on Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m. at Skip Wilson Field.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls, under third-year head coach Ryan Wheeler, stand 12-21 overall and 7-8 in American Athletic Conference play.
After 33 games, senior 1B Robert Amaro is the Owls' leading hitter with a .306 batting average. He has 18 runs, 38 hits, two home runs, and a team-best 31 RBI in 33 starts. A starter in all 33 games, senior 3B Derek Peterson (.278) has scored a team-best 25 runs on 38 hits with a team-leading 17 doubles. Sophomore OF Jimmy Kerrigan (.274) follows with 11 runs on 32 hits and 10 RBI. Senior OF Bobby Heitzman (.255) has scored eight runs on 12 hits and has six doubles, a triple, and eight RBI.
On the mound, senior RHP Matt Hockenberry (3.59 ERA) sports a 4-3 record in 57.2 innings pitched, the most of any Owl. He's fanned 39 batters and walked 15. Redshirt senior RHP Ryan Kuehn (3.48 ERA) has pitched in 10 contests with five starts. He has fanned 15 batters and walked 12. Freshman RHP Patrick Vanderslice (6.51 ERA) has appeared in 12 games with three starts. He's struck out 17 batters and walked eight.
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
The Hawks, under the guidance of 21st-year head coach Dean Ehehalt, stand 12-20 overall and 6-7 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Junior OF Craig Sweeny leads the Hawks in hitting with a 22 RBI and three home runs. Sweeny also has a .336 hitting average, seven doubles and 36 hits overall. Senior IF Jake Gronsky is the only player to start all 32 games. Gronsky leads the team with 39 hits and 23 runs and also has a .328 average and ten doubles. Senior OF Joe Bamford leads the team in triples (3) and has 33 hits and seven walks.
On the mound, junior RHP Chris McKenna (2.62 ERA) is 3-3 in nine appearances, six starts. He has pitched 48 innings, fanned 30 batters, and walked only five. Senior LHP Andrew McGee is 3-5 with a 3.55 ERA. McGee has pitched 58.1 innings, most on the team, and has 34 strikeouts and 11 walks. Junior RHP T.J. Hunt (5.15 ERA) is 3-5. Hunt has pitched 43.2 innings with 34 strikeouts and 12 walks.
SERIES VS. HAWKS
Temple holds a 4-3 series edge over Monmouth since the teams first met in 2006. Last year's meeting was cancelled due to weather.
In 2012, Temple swept a pair of games, claiming a 5-3 road win and a 7-1 decision at home at Skip Wilson Field.
