Baseball Loses to Monmouth 4-3

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple baseball was beaten at home by Monmouth 4-2 at Skip Wilson Field on Saturday afternoon. Temple falls to 12-23 while Monmouth improves to 14-20.
Temple scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Jimmy Kerrigan got on base with a bunt in front of the pitcher. Derek Peterson then drew a walk. Bases were loaded when Robert Amaro drew a walk with two outs. Frank D'Agostino drew a second consecutive walk to allow Kerrigan to score.
Monmouth scored the next four runs of game. The Hawks scored a run in the second, fourth and fifth innings off of starter Patrick Vanderslice and Patrick Krall. Vanderslice pitched five innings and allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) with one strikeout. Krall pitched the last three innings of the game with two hits and one unearned run given up.
The Owls scored a run in the seventh for the start of their comeback. David Hall homered to right center to lead off the inning.
Temple had one final chance in the ninth inning but came up one run short. Hall led off with a double to left field and went to third on a grounder to shortstop by Reyn Sugai. Kerrigan knocked in Hall with a double to left center. The Owls couldn't tie the game up with a runner in scoring position as Peterson struck out swinging and Andrew Nist flied out to center field.
Kerrigan had three hits and a RBI while Hall had two extra base hits and two runs as they lead Temple at the plate.
Tim McCarthy pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Owls with one hit given up.
The Owls will take on Monmouth in the final game of the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Ryan Kuehn will start for Temple.
