BIG EAST Release

PROVIDENCE, R.I.
- By a unanimous decision among the six head field hockey coaches in the BIG EAST Conference, Temple seniors Lizzy Millen and Amber Youtz were two of the 11 athletes named to the 2014 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. After finishing fourth in last year's conference standings, the Owls were picked to finish third among the six teams this season.

Defending national champion and conference champion UConn was picked to repeat in 2014 with five first-place votes. Old Dominion, last year's tournament runner-up, was picked to finish second and received one first-place vote.

Youtz, a 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Second Team All-American, was also named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team a year ago. As a junior, her other honors included being named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region First Team and to the BIG EAST First Team

She ranked second among all players in the country in points per game at 2.44, and averaged one goal per game in 2013 to rank fifth in the nation. Youtz led all players in the BIG EAST in both categories. She scored 16 goals to go with seven assists, and recorded her fourth career hat trick in a 3-1 win vs. Providence on Oct. 11. Youtz concluded her junior season with 103 career points to tie for fifth all-time in program history, and her 42 career goals rank seventh all-time.

Temple's leader in the cage for the past three years, Millen returns for her fifth and final season with the Owls in 2014. An All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree last fall, Millen started in every game and played every minute for the Owls. She posted five shutouts among her 14 wins in goal, and made 105 saves to rank second in the BIG EAST. Her saves percentage of .766 ranked 19th in the nation last season, and her 304 career saves rank seventh all-time in Temple program history.

After achieving its first national ranking in 12 years in early September last season, Temple remained ranked in the Top 20 through the rest of the year. The Owls finished with an overall record of 14-6, and went 4-3 in the BIG EAST to place fourth an earn a berth in the conference tournament.

Head Coach Amanda Janney returns for her 10th season at Temple with an overall record of 100-87, and has guided the Owls to a conference tournament spot in each year of her career.
