Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll - Week 2 (PDF)

PHILADELPHIA
- Temple field hockey has moved up three spots this week in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, as the Owls are now ranked #13 in the Top 20 poll. The newly-released poll is the second of the 2014 season, and Temple had entered the rankings at #16 in week one.

Temple is the second-highest ranked team in the BIG EAST Conference, topped only by defending national champ UConn at #5 in the rankings. The Owls' only losses so far are to top five teams, both of whom are now ranked even higher after playing Temple. After opening the season with a 4-2 win over Northeastern, the Owls defeated then-#10 UMass in a shutout by a score of 2-0. Temple also boasts a 6-1 win at Rutgers and a 5-1 win vs. Delaware. The Owls lost 3-0 at then-#4 Duke, now ranked third, and most recently Temple lost 3-0 at #Maryland. The Terrapins have now moved up to the second spot.

The Owls were unranked in the preseason poll, but were ranked for the final nine weeks of the 2013 season, entering the poll at #11 in the second week.

Temple senior goalkeeper Lizzy Millen has played a major role in the Owls' success so far. Millen currently ranks 13th among all goalkeepers in NCAA Division I with a saves percentage of .814. Her goals-against average of 1.56 ranks 23rd, and her saves per game average of 5.83 ranks 24th in the nation and first in the BIG EAST. Millen has twice been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week in just the first three weeks of the season.

Leading the Owls offensively are seniors Amber Youtz and Nicole Kroener, as well as junior Tricia Light. Youtz and Light have scored four goals apiece, while Kroener has three. Sophomore Paige Gross leads the team in assists with four, while sophomore Katie Foran has added three assists to one goal.

Youtz's fourth goal of the season vs. Delaware was the 46th of her career, and she is now tied for fifth place all-time at Temple in career goals. She needs five more goals to tie for fourth. Youtz has recorded 112 career points to rank fifth, needing five more to tie for fourth in that category as well. She will likely move into the top 10 for assists before long, as she currently has 20 assists in her career and needs just three more to break into a tie for 10th place.

Temple will travel to Bucknell for its next game, an 11:00 a.m. contest on Saturday, Sept. 20. The Owls will return home Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. game against city rival Drexel, and will celebrate Phila Field Hockey Day.
