NFHCA Top 20 Poll
PHILADELPHIA - For a third week in a row, Temple field hockey has earned a Top 20 national ranking in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. The Owls (5-3) are now ranked #15, down two spots from week two.
In the first official NCAA RPI of the season, also released on Tuesday, Temple ranks 13th.
The Owls are coming off a tough, 1-0 overtime loss to Drexel this past Sunday. It was Temple's only loss to an unranked team so far this season, with the Owls' other losses coming to current #4 Maryland and current #5 Duke.
Temple's wins include dominating victories against both Rutgers and Delaware, beating the Scarlet Knights 6-1 on the road on Sept. 5 and earning a 5-1 win at home against the Blue Hens on Sept. 12. After starting the season with a 4-2 win over Northeastern, Temple shut out then-#10 UMass by a score of 2-0.
Senior goalkeeper Lizzy Millen, already a two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week this season, currently ranks ninth in the nation with a saves percentage of .821. She leads the league in saves and saves per game, while ranking second in goals against average.
Offensively, the Owls are led by senior forward and All-American Amber Youtz, who has six goals so far this season. She scored both of Temple's goals in a 2-1 win at Bucknell this past Saturday, putting her career total at 48 goals which ranks fifth all-time in program history. Youtz has 116 career points to rank fifth all-time in that category as well, and needs just one more point to tie for fourth.
Sophomores Katie Foran and Paige Gross are tied for the team lead with four assists apiece, and junior Tricia Light is close behind Youtz with four goals, including two game-winning goals.
Temple will play back-to-back home games this weekend, facing Kent State at noon on Saturday and American at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
