Women's Gymnastics Ready to Compete in ECAC Championships

New Haven, Conn. - As the 2015 women's gymnastics season comes to a close, women's gymnastics sets out this weekend to compete at their final meet of the season, the ECAC Conference Championships. Hosted by Yale on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. the Owls will be facing Brown, Cornell, Pennsylvania, William & Mary and Yale.
The Owls hit their season high mark mid-way through their schedule at the dual meet against the Penn Quakers, where they missed a win by only four tenths of a point. Finishing the season with a team RQS of 190.360, the Owls are ranked 6th in the conference, but look to combine their impressive individual highs this weekend to post their best score yet.
The Owls best event performances have come on the floor exercise, where their consistency and scores of 9.8 or above from four gymnasts have earned them a regular season RQS of 48.11. Jasmine Johnson, the 2014 ECAC floor exercise champion, currently holds the team's highest score on the event with a 9.825 posted at the Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational on February 14.
The balance beam has been another successful event for the Owls in the 2015 season, currently standing fourth in the conference with a 47.925 RQS. Alexis Arena has posted impressive scores on the event all season. With a season high of 9.85 and four first place finishes on the event, she is currently the only gymnast ranked in the top five on an event moving into the conference championships.
On the vault, seven Owls have posted a season high score of 9.6 or above, with seniors Lauren Capone and Jasmine Johnson, as well as Briana Odom posting scores above 9.7. The vault team's consistency has earned them a regular season RQS of 47.97 that ranks fifth in the conference.
The bars has been the Owls weakest event this season with a regular season RQS of 46.655. However impressive performances were sporadic throughout the year, with five Owls posting scores of 9.65 or above. Kerry Arone, posted the season's highest uneven bar score of 9.85 and looks to post a strong performance at her first collegiate conference championships.
Holding the top rank in the conference is Brown, with a season RQS of 193.480. The Bears have posted consistent scores all season, with their lowest team score being a 191.075 at their season-opener. Closely behind the Bears is William & Mary, who holds the conference's highest team score of 195.0 and a team RQS of 193.455. Penn is ranked third and also has a team RQS above a 193. Following the top three are Yale and Cornell, with team RQS' of 191.53 and 191.17 respectively.
The Tribe holds top individual rankings on all events but uneven bars with Brittany Stover's 9.875 RQS on vault, Brandy Stover's 9.775 RQS on beam, and Maggie Lundeen's 9.845 RQS on floor. Brown's Diana Walters holds the top rank on the bars with a RQS of 9.805.Â
