Men's Basketball Hosts Louisiana Tech in NIT Quarterfinals Wednesday
3.23.15 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Top-seed Temple (25-10) will host third-seed Louisiana Tech (27-8) in the quarterfinal round of the NIT Wednesday night. Â The game will be televised by ESPN2 with tip-time set for 9:00 pm.
It will be the second time the teams have met this season with the Owls taking the first game, 82-75, on November 17 in a game that was part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.Â
Temple played that contest without its three transfers. Senior Jesse Morgan and junior Devin Coleman sat out due to NCAA transfer rules while junior Jaylen Bond missed the game with an ankle injury.
Senior Will Cummings, a first team all-conference and all-Big 5 honoree, leads the Owls in scoring (14.9 ppg), assists (4.2 apg) and steals (1.9 spg). Â The co-captain is on fire of late, leading the Owls in scoring in both NIT wins, including a season-high 30 points against Bucknell. Â
Morgan (11.9 ppg) tallied a season-high 20 points in Temple's win over George Washington while Bond (7.7 ppg, 8.2 rpg), a second team all-Big 5 honoree, tops the American Athletic Conference in rebounding.
Junior Quenton DeCosey, who also was named second team all-Big 5 Monday, averages double figures (12.2 ppg) for the Owls.
Louisiana Tech, which also advanced to the 2014 NIT quarterfinalist, is led by senior guard Kenneth Smith (6.4 ppg). Â The Conference USA Player of the Year led the league and ranks third nationally in assists (7.5 apg), while swiping the third-most steals in C-USA with 67. He also anchored a defense that forced a league-best 15.9 turnovers and averaged 8.54 steals per game.Â
Senior Raheem Appleby (15.1 ppg) and junior Alex Hamilton  (15.0 ppg) were named to second team all-conference while coach Michael White was named Coach of the Year. Â
Tickets can be purchased via phone at 1-800-298-4200, online at OwlsTix.com or in person at the Liacouras Center Box Office.
