Men's Crew Notches Three Wins over Bucknell
4.5.15 | Men's Crew
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's crew team won three races, competing in heavy wins on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. The Owls raced against Georgetown and Bucknell with Williams College also participating in select races.
Forced to use floating starts due to 20mph winds and gusts up to 35mph, Temple's boats found success against Bucknell, winning three out of four races against the Bison.Â
The varsity eight opened with a 2.6-second victory in their race, recording a time of 6:04.9 in the 2,000-meter course. The second varsity eight also nabbed a close win, outdistancing Bucknell, 6:10.0 to 6:12.9.Â
Temple's varsity four recorded the largest margin of victory for the Owls on the day, as the boat finished its race in 7:09.0 to Bucknell's 7:19.1.Â
In the novice eight race, the Owls finished second behind Bucknell, but topped Williams by three tenths of a second.
Racing against Georgetown, Temple finished second to the Hoyas by slim margins in all three races. The Varsity eight and second varsity eight each fell by just 2.2 seconds, while in the third varsity race, Temple was only 5.8 seconds off the pace of Georgetown.
The Owls return to the water on April 18 and 19, competing at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tenn.Â
