PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey assistant coach Katie Gerzabek already brings a wealth of playing experience at many levels, and has now also gained even more valuable coaching experience after working with USA Field Hockey's Under-19 National Team. Last week, Gerzabek helped coach the team through a training camp and in spring games against national powerhouses Maryland and Syracuse.
"It was such an amazing honor to be asked to help out with the U19 National Team throughout their training phase leading up to their tour to Germany in May," said Gerzabek. "Having played on the US Junior National Teams in the past, I am able to be a resource and mentor for the athletes since I was in their shoes many times before. I am able to use my experiences playing internationally to help them grow not only as individual players, but also as a team. Not only do I have the opportunity to work with some of the best up and coming field hockey players in the country, but also some of the best coaches in the United States. I am excited to bring what I am learning throughout these trainings to our program here at Temple!"
The Owls' head coach Marybeth Freeman sees only positives to Gerzabek branching out.
"I'm excited that Katie she has been asked to work with this young and talented group," said Freeman. "To get work experience with other coaches and to learn the most updated hockey tactics are major advantages for her and our program as a whole. We're happy Katie is able to represent the Temple hockey program on the national and international stages."
