Field Hockey's Tricia Light Named NSCA All-American

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Graduated senior Tricia Light of Temple field hockey has been named an NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of a great career as an Owl.

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Athletes of the Year program recognizes those college and high school athletes whose athletic accomplishments, in the opinion of their strength coach, reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning. The athletes are also recognized for their academic and personal accomplishments and their integrity as student-athletes.

"As a staff, we decided that for the first year we would nominate someone who goes above and beyond for their training," said assistant strength and conditioning coach Clare Kaufman, "not only achieving Iron Owl status, but coming in to do extra work to improve their performance."

Temple's strength and conditioning staff has long seen the efforts Light has made to improve her performance, including staying on campus for the past few summers to put in extra time in the weight room and eventually achieve Iron Owl status.

"To us, this is an award that focuses on a sometimes undervalued part of our student-athletes' athletic experience," said Kaufman. "It is an award in which the focus is away from the headlines, scoreboards, and fans, but plays such an integral part of their success that only their coaches and teammates witness. From the first day I met Tricia I knew she had a work ethic that would set her apart from others. She is extremely dedicated and focused on the things she wants to accomplish and is willing to put in the work to meet those goals. Not only is she one of our strongest student-athletes but her effort, positive attitude, and dedication to her training is hard to match."

Although she completed her field hockey eligibility at the conclusion of the 2015 season and has now graduated from Temple, Light still can be found in the Pearson-McGonigle weight room every day working on one of the many modalities whether it is strength training, conditioning or recovery work to continue to improve.

"To me, this demonstrates the level of trust she has developed with myself and the rest of the staff," said Kaufman. "I've been so impressed with her as an athlete but more importantly as a person. I know she will be missed by the staff next year."

Light was a Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Second Team honoree as a senior this past season, also earning BIG EAST Second Team honors and BIG EAST All-Tournament Team honors. Her eight assists led the team while her six goals ranked third, with three of those being game-winning goals for the Owls.
