Men’s Cross Country’s Marc Steinsberger Wins Rider Invitational
9.16.16 | Men's Cross Country
PENNINGTON, N.J. – Graduate student Marc Steinsberger took first place for Temple men's cross country on Friday at the Rider Invitational in Pennington, N.J. The poised Germany native was able to push to the front of the line and complete the 8K in a time of 24:39.4.
"I thought the men did a really good job today," said head coach James Snyder after the race. "Marc laid back early on in the race to help the other guys out. Eventually he pushed up to the front."
In the team standings, Temple finished fifth among the eight teams at Rider.
"This was best team race we've ever had," Snyder boasted. "We have never had that close of a spread between our guys and I was really excited about that. It is very beneficial to our program to run in a tight pack like we did today."
Coach Snyder had a great deal to say about freshman Donovan Mears. Mears, who completed the race in 25:40.28, was able to do so finishing within seconds of his teammates aside from Steinsberger.
"Donovan really stepped up these past couple weeks," said Snyder. "He has done a great job closing up races and pulling through the packs. Today I saw a really strong performance from him. He did a good job of showing us that he can perform at this level of competition."
The Owls will compete next at the Paul Short Run on Oct. 1.
