Steinsberger Leads Men’s Cross Country at Big 5 Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – In Temple men's cross country's second meet of the season, graduate student Marc Steinsberger was the top finisher for the Owls at the annual Big 5 Invitational. Steinsberger led a trio of Temple runners who finished in the top 15, taking sixth place in a time of 19:11.7.
"Marc did a really good job today," says head coach James Snyder. "Being an international student, he finished his season late in the summer. With having had some time off, he's a little rusty. However, he surprised us today and gave it his all."
The Owls placed third out of the five Philadelphia teams. Newcomer Kevin Lapsansky (19:45.9) and sophomore Johnathan Condly (19:51.3) were Temple's next best finishers, placing 14th and 15th, respectively.
Despite the heat, there was a positive atmosphere at Belmont.
"Today was exciting. We don't get very many opportunities to race here in Philly, so the Big 5 is always special because we host it," Snyder explains. "Our whole women's track team is here today with us and they helped set everything up and break everything down. To have them here is phenomenal. We got a chance to race in front of our family and friends. A lot of folks came out today to watch us run."
The second meet of the season gave the Temple squad a better sense of where they are in their training and where they can go as a team. Next Friday, the Owls will run at the Rider Invitational in Pennington, N.J.
