11.2.17 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - For a second year in a row, Temple field hockey's Rachael Mueller has been named to the BIG EAST Conference Second Team in a vote by the league's eight head coaches.

Mueller was the Owls' leading scorer in 2017 with six goals and four assists for 16 total points. Her six goals included two game-winners, with one of those coming in overtime for a 3-2 Temple win over Sacred Heart on Sept. 24.

Also a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, Mueller was named to the conference's weekly honor roll on Sept. 18 after scoring twice in the Owls' 3-1 win at Holy Cross. She started in 17 of 18 games this season, and leaves Temple with 25 career goals and five career assists for 55 total points. Later this month, Mueller will play in the Victory Sport Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game after being one of 38 seniors selected from around the country.

BIG EAST regular-season champion, No. 1 Connecticut, garnered three major awards, including Nancy Stevens' 11th BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year certificate. For a third consecutive year, UConn forward Charlotte Veitner was selected as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year. UConn back Casey Umstead was unanimously selected BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year while Providence's Manon van Weezel was voted BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
