Daisy Todd Set to Represent Temple at NCAA Regionals
3.30.17 | Women's Gymnastics
PHILADELPHIA – After a week of training following the ECAC Championships, Daisy Todd is set to compete at her first NCAA Regional Championship. The freshman is the first Owl to be selected to the event since 2009 and first overall selection for head coach Umme Salim-Beasley in her role. Sophomore Aya Mahgoub will also be travelling to Morgantown as a vault alternate.
On Saturday inside the West Virginia Coliseum, Todd will be competing as an uneven bar specialist. The rotation order has the San Jose, Ca. native moving with Kent State University who begins the meet on floor. Todd will compete during the fourth rotation of the day after a bye and will be the final competitor of the rotation following the Kent State lineup. The Morgantown Regional is set to begin at 4 p.m.
The 2017 ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year capped off an impressively consistent season in the all-around with a season-high performance at the conference championships. Her 39.025 score ranked second overall at the meet and stands as Temple's third highest individual all-around of all time.
She completed her first regular season of collegiate gymnastics ranking in a three-way tie for first place on bars with an RQS of 9.820. Throughout the season, Todd posted five scores of 9.825 and currently ranks second all-time for most individual bar scores of 9.8 or higher by a Temple gymnast. For her efforts, Todd was rewarded with three ECAC Rookie of the Week honors, one ECAC Gymnast of the Week nod, and recognition as both Temple Owls' Athlete of the Week and Month.
Mahgoub, who would step in for one of the two current vaulting specialists slated to compete on Saturday if they were unable to compete, has shown her strength as the team's vault specialist all season long. She tallied a career-high 9.85 at the Owls' dual against New Hampshire and capped off the season with an RQS of 9.80 that ranked first in the conference.
Saturday's competition will be streamed live through West Virginia's website here and will post live scores here.
