Gymnastics Set for Dual Meet at UNC on Friday

PHILADELPHIA - Temple women's gymnastics will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Friday for its third meet of the season. UNC will play host to the Owls for a dual meet set for Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.

Scouting the Owls
> Temple will enter Friday night's meet ranked No. 4 in the North East region by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches / Women (NACGCW). 
> At Towson on Jan. 14, sophomore Yasmin Eubanks snagged the silver medal for her uneven bars performance. Eubanks scored a 9.75 to lead the Owls to a 48.125. Sophomore and 2017 ECAC Rookie of the Year Daisy Todd was reintroduced to the bar lineup, augmenting the overall score. 
> The Owls reset the program record for highest season-opening team score with a 194.875 in their 2018 debut at the Little Boston Invitational on Jan. 6. Overall, Temple placed first out of four teams, topping Maryland, Towson, and New Hampshire. The meet marked Temple's first time beating New Hampshire in program history and its first time beating Maryland since 1995.
> Sophomore Jaylene Everett kicked off 2018 with a career best performance on vault, scoring a 9.825 on Jan. 6 in Boston. She then topped her career high floor exercise score at Towson on Jan. 14 with a 9.825. The sophomore sits at No. 2 in the ECAC for highest average of both vault and floor workers and was named the conference's Specialist of the Week on Jan. 16 for her efforts.
> On Jan. 6, Temple's beam squad topped last season's high score of 48.775 with a 48.8 overall. Sophomore Whitney King posted at career-high score of  9.8 to earn the Owls' highest score in the event. 
> The Owls are led by co-captains Sahara Gipson and Breahna Wiczkowski in 2018.

Scouting the Tar Heels
> The fifth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels fell just short of their third-ranked NC State Wolfpack rivals in their season opener on Jan. 12, trailing 194.375 to 194.650.
> Despite the loss, UNC rang in the new year with three first-place scores, seven top-three scores and fourteen top-five scores over all events. Additionally, the Tar Heels set a total of six new personal records over the course of the competition
> Senior Morgan Lane is the reigning EAGL Gymnast of the Year, having finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the league in the all-around and on the balance beam.
> At the close of 2017, the Tar Heels made their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2013 and took fifth at the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
> As a whole, the Tar Heels earned six consecutive first place finishes in 2017 just before the EAGL Championships where they placed fourth overall. 
> Friday's meet will mark the 25th meeting between the Owls and the Tar Heels since 1985.
